After creating the “Gumball Spcial” theme based from an older site of mine called HELLBISCUIT; I wanted to create a similar theme in layout that wasn’t image-driven like that one was. The layout was a unique design I produced over a couple years ago, and it’s finally being released.

At first I wanted to do a dark theme that would contrast the Gumball Special design. But after creating the dark version, I decided to produce a “light” version as well.

The only real difference in each theme are the images and stylesheets. 90% of the code is the same between light and dark.

Cellar Heat Light Version

“Cellar Heat” has a few cool features built in. Gravatars are enabled, excerpts of previous and next posts per page, the theme is widgetized although I can’t guarantee they will look so hot), no plugins to be installed and a recent comments section in the footer.

If you view in IE6, you’ll get a run active-x prompt, and if you don’t okay it – the entire top of the site will have a grey bar where the floral detail is to appear. Other than that; the theme should work everywhere else withou a hitch.

The 16 column is what I ended up using in the end – the only issue I had was going from a 4 column to 3 column footer with the same margins while keeping the grid intact (but that was an extremely minor issue).

I recommend everyone grab the templates and make use of them.

I logged into the registrar and came across “Cellar Heat” and thought – that’s perfect! It’s dark, grungy and has a nice ring to it. I originally came across the domain name from the song of the same title by Skinny Puppy. The song appears on the 1996 release “The Process”.

It was a track I always dug, and thought the name was quite peculiar so I went to see if the domain was available. I scooped it up over a year ago and has sat dormant until now.

So here we are.

But, I have found myself listening to one country singer – Mr. Hank Williams III. The grandson of the great Hank himself, Hank III is much more outlaw than cowboy. He really puts out some good music that is completely old-school country with attitude.

I first heard a bootlegged recording of one of his first albums that was never released. “This Ain’t Country” is much more psychobilly than country, and I can see why his record label was pretty scared to release it. I was instantly turned on, and started picking up more of his albums (which are much more country). His new one “Straight to Hell” is one of the better albums I’ve heard in ages, I think it’s been on repeat now since I picked it up.

Some of you metalheads out there have probably heard Hank III and didn’t know it – turns out he’s also the bassist for x-pantera singer’s Superjoint Ritual. Hank III has also been in and out of drumming for punk bands, and has his own punk band that hasn’t released anything yet, called “Assjack.” I guess there’s a bunch of bootlegs floating around of live recordings, but I can’t seem to find any of them. Someone want to hook me up?

Anyways, I can honestly say that there is a country musician out there that rocks. Well, besides Cash that is.

And, well, he’s completely right. What’s pretty funny, is that the rednecks and jocks driving around in Bronco trucks hasn’t changed – just the music aspect. Instead of Billy Idol blaring out their speakers, it’s Hip-Hop, Rap-Rock and whatever other mainstream band is the hype. And let me tell you, they all drive very, very badly. I thought it was bad in northern California, but nope, something about Bakersfield drivers, where they are oblivious to everything and need to get to the local Walmart in under 30 seconds or less. From what I understand, Bakersfield is becoming the new home for many people that commute to Los Angeles for work.

Bakersfield is pretty much all service jobs, and schooling for L.A. white-collars on the evenings and weekends. So you can imagine the driving and the mentality of the place nowadays. It’s sad really, I was hoping with the growth of the city, that maybe more creative jobs would rise up and maybe gasp more technical jobs. But no, it’s all services for commuting workers. Let’s recap some Bakersfield high-points (taken from wikipedia):

• The Punk Rock band NOFX mentions burning down Bakersfield in their song “Leaving Jesusland” and also in their song “Instant Crassic”
• The Grammy winning metal band, Korn is from Bakersfield.
• The Rolling Stones sing of Bakersfield in “Far Away Eyes.”
• John Hiatt mentions the town in “Tennessee Plates.”
• The punk artist Henry Rollins mentions Bakersfield in “The Virtues of Black Sabbath” and “Get in the Van: On the Road with Black Flag”.
• Martina McBride’s song “Cry on the Shoulder of the Road” opens with the line “I’m rolling out of Bakersfield.”
• Buck Owens’ famous “Streets of Bakersfield”, later performed with Dwight Yoakam, is about Bakersfield.

• Country music legend Buck Owens lived in Bakersfield until his death, and his Crystal Palace nightclub is located on Buck Owens Blvd.
• The Fox Network broadcast “Bakersfield P.D.” (1993), a sitcom about police officers in Bakersfield (one an African-American transplant from Los Angeles, the other a local white officer) which was critically acclaimed but only lasted 17 episodes.
• The movie The Running Man opens with the Bakersfield Food Riots, where Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character is framed as “The Butcher of Bakersfield.”
• One film shot in Bakersfield is The Cell. This blockbuster is about a serial killer that videotapes his victims before drowning them. The equipment used in the victims’ demise has a plate stamped “Made in Bakersfield”.
• Other films shot in and around Bakersfield include:

• The 1993 film [[Fearless (film}|Fearless]] opens with the aftermath of an airline crash in a corn field outside of Bakersfield and features the now defunct Golden Empire Ambulance service.
• Any reference to Bakersfield by the writer Stephen King usually does not end up in a positive light.
• Bakersfield now has the worst air quality in North America (April, 2006).
• In the “CRPG Fallout: A Post Nuclear Role Playing Game”, the ruins of Bakersfield are called Necropolis and are inhabited with ghouls, human beings mutated horribly by radiation.
• Twin racist sisters from Bakersfield, Lynx and Lamb Gaede, make up the recording duo Prussian Blue.
• In the Dreamcast and PS2 game “Headhunter”, the city makes an appearance (figuratively speaking) as the fictional city of “Quakersfield.”
• In The Simpsons’s episode Take My Wife, Sleaze the fictional biker group, Hell’s Satans, are from Bakersfield.
• The TV series Clueless featured a storyline with two episodes in Season 3 (“Bakersfield Blues” and “Back From Bakersfield”) where the main character, Cher, and her father move to Bakersfield, which is portrayed as a backward town of farmers and cowboys.

Ah yes, the highlites of Bakersfield.I still have a lot of family and friends there, and I love them all to death. If I could fund a move for all of them to any city of their choosing I would.This post was in jest. Though I really don’t dig on Bakersfield all that much, it still has some good qualities. Just, there isn’t any coming to mind at the moment.

Jason Bourne has always been a favrorite character of mine, and the latest in the series “Bourne Ultimatum” is not only the best, but one of the best action flics I’ve seen in a long, long time. Ultimatum is so well done, it’s ridiculous. Every scene keeps you glued to the film – it’s such a completely fresh take on spy style movies, it’s what the next Bond movie should seriously strive for. The character of Bourne himself has evolved so much that it makes the pace of the film so much quicker; but completely for the better. I don’t think there was any spot in the movie where events died-down in a sense. YOU NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE.

Just tonight, I watched another flic that I had heard of when it was in theatres, but didn’t think much of it. I so wish I had sean this movie in theatres now! “Stardust” is an incredibly well-written, well-directed, acted, entertaining movie that I just couldn’t pull away from. Every actor in the movie is so engaging with their characters that you can’t move from your seat. Claire Danes, DeNiro, Charlie Cox, Jason Flemyng, Michelle Pfeiffer, David Kelly and the rest of the cast really bring a huge amount of life to this movie. On top of it being so well-written and done, the producers and directors brought in the perfect cast for this movie. If you don’t see any other movie in 2007 or 2008; you HAVE to watch this flic. Written by the master himself; Neil Gaiman (MirrorMask, The Sandman, Death: The High Cost Of Living, Mr. Punch), it’s an incredibly well-done movie. CHECK IT OUT NOW!
